To Reach A Goal...

FIRST…Early Registration for the Mind Virus HEADSPACE  Seminar has past, but there is still time to register for the seminar, and even if we doubled our regular rate ($1,195.00 USD), this seminar would still be a tremendous deal. The value that you will receive in return for your investment will blow you away. Please remember that, in order to attend the seminar, you must book a hotel room under your name at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

GOALS, GOALS, GOALS

Everybody has a method for reaching goals, and most of those methods are easy. From my perspective, however, most of those methods are ineffective. When a person works toward a goal using a certain strategy, and by design, the strategy is flawed, the end result is someone who is far more discouraged than they were prior to their ascent.

There are two main culprits responsible for unreached goals:

1). The person
2). The strategy

When it’s the person, it’s nearly always a headspace issue. Sure, the person responsible for not achieving a goal (or goals) will have a laundry list of people, things, and circumstances to which they can assign BLAME, but once the smoke screen of excuses has settled, the reality of WHO is to blame for an unreached goal becomes quite apparent.

When it’s the strategy, then no matter how hard you try, you will not succeed. Yeah – you may have SOME good fortune, but not much. In most cases of failed goals that result from flawed strategy, the strategist (the person or company that sold you the strategy) will be pointing their finger right in your direction. In reality, their methods have holes, and even one little puncture in the strategy can sabotage the ascent.

The folks who attend HEADSPACE will understand the key ingredients required to achieve goals – whether they are personal, financial, etc. The ingredient list is something that is going to make them feel uncomfortable. If achieving goals were easy, then there wouldn’t be hundreds if not thousands of books and audio programs covering the topic. The ingredient list is not painful simply because I want it to be. No, no, no. Rather, it’s painful (or MAY be painful) because I WILL NOT offer a strategy that can fail.

You see folks, that’s the difference between real leaders and popular leaders. A real leader creates strategies that get shit done. A popular leader spits out great ideas that sound good, but doesn’t get shit done. It’s that simple.

When I wrote my 530 page marketing manual, I wrote it in such a way that it spelled out specific core strategies that must be implemented, and then of course, strategies that you COULD implement given certain logistics and/or budgets. Without the core strategies, and the specific plans associated with those strategies (i.e. step-by-step processes), those who read through the manual would just have ideas without instruction.

Let’s say that you’ve decided to open a restaurant. You went to culinary school, and you have a lot of restaurant management experience, but when it comes to reaching your goals, you really have no training. Will you acknowledge this fact to be an issue? The answer is NO. Instead, what you’ll do is focus on increasing sales, bringing in more customers, reducing food costs, etc. That’s not bad, but that’s not really a “goal strategy.” Those are just accomplishments.

A big no-no is confusing accomplishments with goal strategy. I see this a lot when I speak to chiropractors who have great techniques and management systems dropped in their laps, yet – are not generating the income and/or results that they should. The technique and management gurus TRY to help these doctors get their game on, but the fact is that the gurus don’t have the first glue as to how to point a person in a direction that will help them be their best. Instead, what they are told to do is take a brisk run in the morning, followed by a series of affirmations:

“I am successful. I am sexy. All women want me. I am….”

Sorry, but that’s not enough.

I recently spoke to a group of entrepreneurs who have embarked upon, what I believe to be a fantastic business venture. They have a great concept. The reason that I was brought in was because they finally realized that all the MBA’s in the world (and in the room) could not generate a goal strategy for their company. Their strategy was all wrong, even though they clearly possessed a great deal of knowledge in their area of expertise.

Part of setting goals is not just about what YOU ARE GOING TO DO, but what YOU AREN’T GOING TO DO. And this is where the “experts” get it all wrong. To make matters worse, you have to have big brass balls to admit that a sexy bald guy like yours truly actually has answers that you can’t find in books, CD programs, and from guys with MBA’s. It’s painful for most – to accept that reality. And if that weren’t enough, the fact that I am not a “helium person” (“Oh, everything is sooo wonderful…the birds are chirping…everyone say hello to Mr. Butterfly…blah, blah, blah…”)  – doesn’t make it any easier to accept advice from someone who knows the answer, but doesn’t look the part.

I guess I COULD try to play the part of a guru, but that wouldn’t be me. I have 5 books that COULD be professionally published, but why go there? I mean – at the end of the day, I don’t want people attending my seminars just because they saw my pretty face on the cover of a book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Borders. I want people at my seminars because they are ready to hear WHAT THEY DON’T WANT TO HEAR. From the get-go, I tell people to never ask me a question if they don’t want to hear the answer…that they don’t want to hear. In other words, don’t ask me how that dress looks on you, or how that suit looks on you, if you don’t want to hear the truth.

Back To GOALS…

One of my favorite lines from a great movie is, “Russians don’t take a dump, son, without a plan” (The Hunt For Red October). So it goes with goals. Most are not thought out, and when they are, they are not looked at from all angles. Before you consider the goals themselves, there are many other factors that must be considered. How those factors are considered and dealt with determines the outcome of the goal strategy.

Anyway…something to think about
on a gorgeous Monday here in Chicago.

Have A GREAT Day!
